Uranium : The element of Discovery's...

 Uranium is a very heavy metal which has been used as an abundant source of energy for over 60 years. 
It is 92nd element present in Periodic Table. It's come under actinides series. It is very weakly radioactive element. It is 51st element in order of abundance in Earth crust.

Isoptes of Uranium
Uranium-238 which is most found  Uranium on earth crust which is 99.3%. U-238 has incredible half life of 4.5 billion years.
Uranium-235 which is second most found Uranium on earth crust which is 0.7%
U-235 has half Life of  700 million years.

Discovery's :
Uranium was discovered in 1789 by German chemist named  Martin_Heinrich_Klaproth.  Klaproth was doing experiment on pitchblende by dissolving it in nitric acid and neutralizing the solution with NaoH. He got a precipitate a yellow compound ( like sodium diuranate ). The yellow compound was the oxide of unknown element which has yet to discovered. He named this element after the planet Uranus.

In 1841, Eugene-Melchior_Peligot , isolate 1st sample of uranium metal by heating Uranium tetrachloride with potassium. 

In 1896, Henri_Becquerel , discovered radioactivity by using Uranium. He placed Uranium salt K2UO2(SO4) (potassium uranyl sulfate)  on top of an unexposed photographic plate in a drawer and further noted that plate has got fogged. he determined that an invisible light from uranium has exposed the plate.

In 1898, Marie_Curie and her husband Pierre_Curie while studying the mineral of pitchblende. They removed the Uranium from it and found that the material is still radioactive. Later they removed polonium from it and then discovered the new element called Radium. In form of Radium chloride. In nature Radium is found in Uranium.

In 1934, Enrico_Fermi and team observed that bombarding uranium with neutrons produces emission of beta rays. The experiment leds to the discovery of uranium's ability to fission which means to break down into lighter elements and release of high energy.
In fission process the neutrons are bombarded on Uranium atom. Then it's spilts in two lower atoms and some amount of neutrons.

In 1945, during the second world war the United nation developed two atomic bombs first was named little boy (uranium based device) and second was fat mam (plutonium based device). The Uranium based atomic bomb the little boy was the first nuclear weapon used in war which was putted on Japanese city Hiroshima.

In India 
   In India the first uranium mining started at Jaduguda Mine in Jharkhand. The deposits at this mine were discovered in 1951. The Uranium mining and Uranium process is carried out by Uranium_Corporation_of_India (UCI). The firm operates mines at Jadugora, Bhatin, Narwapahar, Turamdih and Banduhurang. 
  Apart from Jaduguda, uranium reserves are available in Meghalaya, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. India has 22 nuclear power reactors and domestic uranium is used in nuclear plants which are not under the international nuclear energy watchdog, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
